In the wake of the surprising but very exciting news that Prince has signed a new contract with his old record label Warner Bros. Records to release a NEW album as well as a bunch of old, previously unreleased material from his treasure trove of recordings from the 80's, Prince has unleashed upon the world a new single titled The Breakdown. As I understand it, Prince performed this song in concert last Fall but just before midnight last night he released it officially for sale on iTunes. Have a listen of this new Prince track below.
I love this track … and I LOVE that Prince is ready to release new music to us. This new deal with WBR is pretty insane … the possibilities regarding what new/old music we may soon have access too are limitless. We know a new Prince album will be released this year. We know that a remastered, 30th anniversary version of Purple Rain will be released this year and now we have this new song to add to the mix (and let’s not forget the song he just released, that duet with Zooey Deschanel titled FALLINLOVE2NITE). Prince could release a new song every day from now until eternity and still never run out of music to give unto us. These are very exciting times for Prince fans, I can’t wait to hear more!
