SO, my Sunday was pretty amazing … from start to finish, I had the best day ever. After I finished up work in the AM, I met up with my friend Adriana so that we could make our way to Darion’s mom Janai’s big birthday bash. Even tho we celebrated her birthday together on Friday night, yesterday’s event was her bigger party, open to Darion’s LEGION of friends. Of course Janai held court like the BOSS that she is and a great time was had by all. After Janai’s party, I made my way down to Anaheim to meet up and have dinner with my good friend Sherri who is visiting SoCal from Michigan for a few days. Sherri is my oldest friend, we go WAY way back so it was really nice to spend time with her. Altho I probably shouldn’t've, I made my way to the Echo late last night to partake of the Part Time Punks dance night devoted to the music of Siouxsie and the Banshees. OMG. I had too much fun … and stayed out way too late … and am still feeling the effects today, OY.
As usual, Janai’s birthday extravaganza was full of fun and merriment. It is impossible not to have an amazing time when you are in her presence. Janai is truly one of the happiest, most positive people I know and I just love her bits. She is the living embodiment of happiness and it is always a joy to spend any time with her. Her parties are NOT to be missed. I’m so glad that I was able to celebrate with her yesterday.
Dinner with Sherri was so fun. She and I go way back to high school. She and I actually met on the first day of high school, in gym class. We’ve been friends ever since. We were super close for most of high school and beyond. Now that she’s all married with adorable children, I’m sorry to say that I don’t get to see her as often as I would like. It’s been a while since we’ve seen one another and a very long time since the two of us got to hang out alone (eg. not in a party situation) so it was really great to catch up with her. Our dinner lasted 3 hours and the time just flew by. She’s here for a few more days and I’m going to see about heading back down to Anaheim to see her again before she flies back home to Michigan.
Even tho it was kinda late when I left Anaheim for LA, I decided I’d just swing by The Echo to peek in and see what the Siouxsie and the Banshees Nite was like at the Part Time Punks party. I’ve gone to MANY of the Morrissey/Smiths parties but for various reasons, have never been able to make one of the SaTB parties. I had so much fun last night. I can’t even tell you. SaTB is truly one of my favorite bands of all time, hands down. During my many years of gothing it up at City Club back home in Detroit, I’ve danced to my fair share of Siouxsie songs … but usually, it’s the same 4 or 5 songs that they are most famous for. Last night’s party was ALL SaTB (plus a few songs from Joy Division, The Cure, etc. thrown in for good measure). I danced to songs on the dancefloor with likeminded SaTB fans to songs that I’ve only ever really danced to in the privacy of my own home. It was soul nourishing … I’m not even exaggerating. I only planned to stay for a short time and ended up staying until the party was over at 2. I had the absolute best time. I havne’t danced so unabashedly like that in so long, my legs are sore today (which goes to show how I’ve been slacking off on my running … but I digress). They don’t throw the SaTB Nite as often as I’d like but I will deff keep my eyes open for the next party. If I can, I’d like to have more nights like last night as often as possible.
